Alternatively, for the impaitient, there's 301it-Quik. It simply shortens the URL with no extras. Drag the 301it-Quik to your toolbar.

The 301it and 301it-Quik will work on most any browser for any operating system which support Javascript. Including IE, Opera, Safari, Firefox, Mozilla ...
